Hannah and Ella, both running their first All Irelands got off to a great start and ran very steadily throughout. Well done girls and here's looking forward to many more!

Molly, running 2500m over a very hilly course, ran a strong steady race throughout and finished 91st. Well done Molly on what was probably the toughest course of the Season.

Congratulations to all Crookstown Millviews cross country runners. It's been a long tough year but we have the foundations built for a strong track season in 2014. Lets look forward to that!

Leinster XC Championships, Uneven Ages, Adamstown (10th November 2013)

Six Crookstown Millview athletes ran for club and county on Day 2 of the Leinster Championships on a lovely sunny day in Adamstown. A new course provided a new challenge for athletes but they did not let that stop them.

U11: Hannah Breen and Ella Flemming (1500m). The girls got off to a great start battling their way through 142 athletes. Hannah, running up an age, gained alot of ground in the second half of the race finishing strongly in 23rd place and 2nd in the county. Ella, in her first year of cross country, had a great race running very steady throughout and finishing strongly in 55th. Kildare qualified for the All Irelands in 4th place so Hannah received a bronze Leinster medal. Great running girls.

U13: Molly Aspel and Thomas Keane (2500m). 127 girls took off next over 2500m. Molly ran well, maintaining a steady pace throughout finishing 50th overall and 7th in county. She also qualified to represent Kildare in the All Irelands on December 15th in Waterford. Thomas, who got off to a great start, unfortunately had a fall mid race, twisted his ankle and was unable to finish.

U15; Adanya Hott (3500m). Adanya got off to a great start in a strong field of 85 girls. She maintained a good position throughout finishing 29th overall and 4th for Kildare. Well done.

U17: Roisin Crowe and David McDonald (4000m, 5000m).  Roisins 4000m took off at a blistering pace and she did well to keep contact with the second group. She ran strongly throughout finishing 14th overall and 2nd in Kildare. Kildare also came second so Roisin received a silver Leinster medal and will represent the county in the All Irelands with Molly and Hannah. David with the longest race of the day, 5000m, had a great run. He maintained a very strong pace from the start and finished at a blistering pace in 51st place.

Congratulations to all Cross Country athletes who competed in the Leinsters, County's and Open Events. For most it is the finish of the season and they get to look forward to the indoors in March. Good luck to Molly, Roisin, Niamh and Hannah who have qualified for the upcoming All Irelands on November 17th and December 15th.

Leinster XC Championships, Even Ages, Dunboyne (27th October 2013)
Today saw the start of the Cross Country Championships in Dunboyne. Eight athletes competed in tough conditions on a cold and miserable day. Real Cross Country conditions!

U10: Hannah Breen and Ellen Coleman (1000m). Both girls competed in an event run by Dunboyne AC to gain experience of competing at this level. They got off to a great start and gained alot of ground in the second half of the race with Hannah finishing 5th and picking up a medal and Ellen finishing 18th. Well done girls

U12: Katelynn O'Brien and Thomas Keane (2000m). In her first Leinster Championships Katelynn competed in a field of over 138 girls and a longer distance than she had previously raced. She ran a very steady race, constantly picking off athletes to finish 61st individually and 11th in Kildare. Thomas, also his first Leinster level race, and in a packed field of 135 boys ran very well. He maintained a steady pace throughout and finished 96th.

U14: Adanya Hott and Molly Aspel (3000m). With 120 girls showing up on the day, competition was tight. Molly got off to a flying start, gained alot of ground in the back field  and by constantly picking off athletes moved up the field to finish in 31st place and 8th in Kildare. A great achievement running out of her age. Adanya, tired on the day, finished 74th.

U16: Roisin Crowe and Niamh Crowe (4000m). In a very competitive field the girls got off to a good start. With two full laps and tough conditions Niamh ran very well for her first experience at Leinster Level. She maintained a strong pace throughout and finished 46th and 9th in Kildare. Roisin ran steady throughout, finishing 24th overall and 3rd in Kildare which earned her a team county medal when Kildare finished as 2nd County.

Well done to all athletes, old and new, and congratulations to Molly Aspel, Niamh Crowe and Roisin Crowe who qualified to represent Kildare in the All Irelands on November 17th in Santry.

County Cross Country Championships, Uneven Ages, Kildare (13th October 2013)

12 athletes raced today on a new course in Kildare town. Although mostly flat terrain, the distances were tough and all athletes ran very well.

U9 boys 500m: Aidan McMahon 12th. Despite falling twice over the first 50m, Aidan covered a huge amount of ground during the rest of the race, picking off athletes one by one and finishing in 12th place. A great race and a great finish.

U11 girls, 1200m: Hannah Breen 2nd, Ella Flemming 13th. Running in a packed field, the girls maintained a steady pace for the first 500m. Hannah, running up an age, started well, and moving steadily through the field positioned herself cleverly to storm into 2nd place over the last 200m. A fantastic race for her and a silver medal. Ella also ran very steadily and gained alot of ground in the back field passing over ten athletes to finish strongly in 13th place. Well done girls.

U13 girls, 2000m: Molly Aspel 3rd, Katelynn O'Brien 19th, Inez Duane, Ella Duane. Molly got off to a blistering start leading the pack for the first lap. She maintained her position for most of the race and although she got caught over the last 400m, she finished very well in 3rd place. An excellent race and a bronze medal. Well done Molly. Katelynn, running up an age, did herself proud by running strongly over the two laps and maintaining  her position till the end. Ella and Inez, in only their second race for the club, found the distance tough, but raced very well, particularly in the back field and are gaining more experience each time they run. Well done girls.

U13 boys, 2000m: Thomas Keane 32nd. Running out of his age and in a packed field Thomas had a great race. He ran very comfortably over the first lap and gained alot of places with his fast finish over the last 300m to finish 32nd. Well done Thomas.

U15 girls, 2,500m: Adanya Hott 4th. Despite getting boxed in at the start, Adanya, also running up an age, gradually moved up the field and ran comfortably in 2nd place for most of the race. Unfortunately, she got caught with only 100m to go but still finished very well in 4th place.

U17 girls, 3,500m: Niamh Crowe 6th, Roisin Crowe. Both girls, running up an age, got off to a great start with Roisin storming ahead with a Naas athlete. Roisin kept this pace for almost two laps but unfortunately had to stop with breathing difficulties. Niamh, in only her 4th cross country race with Crookstown, ran very steadily throughout and is gaining valuable experience with each race.

U17 boys, 4,500m: David McDonald 8th. David had a great race today running with the leading group for the first half of his race and while maintaining a steady pace throughout he finished very comfortably in 8th place. Well done David.

Well done to everyone who raced today. A huge amount of experience (and training!) was gained that will be of great benefit in upcoming races. Congrats to Hannah and Molly for their medals and to Molly, Hannah and Adanya who made the Kildare County Team for the uneven age Leinsters on November 10th in Adamstown.

County Cross Country Championships, Even Ages, Suncroft (6th October 2013)
We had a fantastic turnout for the first day of the counties in Suncroft today. Eighteen athletes represented the club and we were very lucky as the rain held off for most of the day.

U10 girls, 600m: Hannah Breen 1st, Ellen Coleman 4th, Molly O'Loughlin 11th, Caitlin Keogh 36th. The girls got off to a blistering start with Hannah and Ellen running at the top of the group from the get go. Molly and Caitlin followed strongly working their way up towards the top as the race continued. Hannah gained ground up the hill and stormed into the finish in first place. Ellen, Molly and Caitlin also flew home and as a result of their efforts they secured gold for the team event. Well done girls!

U10 boys, 600m: Aidan McMahon ran his first cross country race for the club and did a great job. He worked his way up from the back of the pack and running a very fast final 100m finished 18th place. As he was also running up an age this is a great achievement.

U12 girls, 1500m: Katelynn O'Brien 8th, Sophie Foyle 34th, Ella Flemming 44th. In another packed field the girls started very well. As they passed the finish for the first time Katelynn started to pick athletes off and continued to do so right up to the finish line. Sophie, running her first cross country for the club ran a very steady strong race throughout and Ella, running up an age, also showed off her strong finish on the last stretch.

U12 boys, 1500m: Colm McMahon, 20th, Thomas Keane 24th. The boys field was as full as the girls and they got off to a great start. They both made alot of ground during the last 500m and ran a very fast final hill finishing near the top of the group. Well done lads!

U14 girls, 2000m: Adanya Hott 10th, Molly Aspel 14th, Ella Duane 20th, Inez Duane 25th. Starting in the top field, the girls stayed in touch with the leading pack for the first 500m. Adanya running strongly in 6th place for most of the race, found the hills on the final lap tough and finished well in 10th. Molly, running up an age, gained alot of ground on the second lap and stormed up the hills to finish 14th, Ella and Inez, running both up an age and in their first cross country race for the club, found the going tough but ran a very steady and strong pace throughout. The girls missed a bronze medal in the team event by a narrow 4 points. Great running girls!

U16 girls, 3000m: Roisn Crowe 1st, Niamh Crowe 5th. Facing 3 laps of the course the girls stuck with the leading pack for the first two laps. However, heading into the final lap, Roisin broke away from the group and increased the gap as the race continued. She stormed up the final hill to bring home gold. Niamh, running a strong race throughout maintained her position and finished very strongly in 5th place.

U18 boys, 5500m: David McDonald 4th. David, facing a very tough five and a half laps of the course ran a very strong race throughout. He stayed with the leading group for the first 2k and as a few lads broke away David maintained his 4th place throughout the race and finished very well in 4th place.

Novice men, 3000m: Tony Aspel. Tony, in his first run back for the club, had a great race. Running with the Masters and over 35's he lead the field for the first lap and half. As the race continued he maintained a very steady pace. Although he found the last 500m tough, he finished very well in 2nd place in his category.

Well done everyone. You did yourselves proud today. Congrats also to the following athletes who due to their efforts have made the Kildare County Team for the Leinster Cross Country Even Ages on 27th October:

Katelynn O'Brien, Adanya Hott, Roisin Crowe, Niamh Crowe, David McDonald

AAI All Ireland Combined Events Championships, Tullamore (10th August 2013)
Lisa Aspel competed in the U15 Pentathlon today in Tullamore.  In a strong field of athletes Lisa finish 4th after a tough day where she competed in Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Putt & finished with 800m.

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Championships, Tullamore (20th/21st July)
Jonny McKenna & Lisa Aspel were competing in the final 2 days of the All Ireland Track & Field Championships this weekend.

Lisa had been selected to run for the Kildare U/15 Girls Inter County relay team along with Ellie O'Toole (Newbridge), Amy McGrath (Newbridge) and Ailbhe Gallagher (Naas).  The girls ran a fantastic race to finish 1st and pick up Gold.  Jonny had also been selected for the Kildare U/15 Boys Inter County Relay team and running with Kevin Kyne (Newbridge), Mark Glynn (Newbridge) and Callum McGrath (Suncroft) also replicated the girls race and finished 1st to pick up Gold.

Lisa & Jonny were also both involved in the U/15 200m sprint on Sunday.  Although no medals were won both athletes ran well and gave their best on the day.

Kildare Juvenile League, Round 4, Naas (13th July 2013)
The last round of the juvenile league was held in Naas today. 19 of our athletes turned out on an extremely hot day to compete for the final points for this year.  Credit goes to all the athletes who competed over the 4 rounds and to their parents for bringing them to the events.  Going into the last round Crookstown were leading Section C of the league by 120 points.  We were certainly not let down today by anybody with great performances coming from all 19 of the athletes who took part.

Confirmation of our final position in the league will not be available until next week but the individual performance trophies were awarded and this year we had 5 winners:  Scott Cardiff (U/10 boys), Katelynn O'Brien (U/12 girls), Molly Aspell (U/13 girls), Oisin Hott (U/13 boys), Aoife Kelly (U/14 girls) and Lisa Aspel (U/15 girls).  Well done to you all.

No matter the final finishing position of the club, medals will be awarded to all athletes that took part in at least 2 rounds of the league to show how important your participation in the league is.  So Well done to everyone.

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Championships, Tullamore (6th/7th July)
We had 4 athletes competing this weekend in the All Ireland Championships.  Lisa Aspel was competing in the U/15 Sprint Hurdles & 250m Hurdles; Kathryn Weir was competing in the U/19 Shot & Discus; Aoife Kelly was competing in the U/14 Long Jump and John Healy was competing in the U/12 Shot.

Lisa came through strong at the finish of her sprint hurdle heat to gain automatic qualification to the final where she fought hard and finished in a time of 12.23s to win a Bronze All Ireland medal.  In the 250m Hurdles, which is a tough race, she once again gained automatic qualification to the final from her heat but this time was just unable to medal but still finished fantastically in 4th place.

Kathryn was first up in her Shot and going into the last 8 was in 2nd place which she held onto, and with a throw of 10.66m, won a Silver All Ireland medal.  Kathryn went straight from Shot to Discus where she threw well but not enough for a medal and finished in 4th place.

John competed in Shot where, unfortunately, he did not throw as well as he has been in previous competitions and finished 9th with a throw of 7.01m - but remembering that this is 9th in Ireland it is a great achievement.

Aoife competed in Long Jump where her best jump was 4.31m which was unfortunately not enough to take her through to the final 8 but knowing that her PB in AAI competitions this year is 4.62m and that this was her first All Ireland Championship she can be very proud of her achievements this year.

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Pairs Championships, Finn Valley (29th June 2013)
Scott Cardiff & James Deane travelled to Donegal this weekend to compete in the U/10 Turbo Jav Competition from which they had qualified through Leinster.  The boys put in great effort with their best throws being 14.68m from James and 16.83m from Scott giving a combined total of 31.51m. This placed them 8th overall which is a fantastic result for an All Ireland competition.

Leinster Combined Events Championships, Navan (29th June 2013)
Lisa Aspel was our only athlete competing in the Combined Events Championships today. After a busy week of competing in other events Lisa was still able to come out on top with a Gold Leinster medal today with points scored in High Jump, Hurdles, Long Jump Shot and 800m.

Leinster U13-U19 Championships, Tullamore (15th & 16th June 2013)
7 athletes competed for the Club this weekend with some great performances especially for Lisa Aspel who medalled in all of her individual events plus the inter county relay; Jonny McKenna who medalled in 2 of his events plus the inter county relay; Kathryn Weir who won Gold in both Shot Putt & Discus and Aoife Kelly who jumped a Personal Best in Long Jump to come 4th.  These athletes will all now represent the club at the All Ireland Championships in July.  Well done from all your coaches.

Adanya Hott, Oisin Hott & Molly Aspell also competed in these Championships and although no medals were won huge effort was given and experience gained.  Once again well done from all your coaches.

Molly Aspell competed in the U13 600m where she ran a PB of 1:55 in a very fast heat and just missed qualifying for the finals. Great improvement for Molly.

Oisin Hott competed in the U/13 Shot Putt and 600m.  Unfortunately, Oisin was sick all week and this showed in his 600m which he found very tough on the day and did not make the finals.  He did, however, throw a PB in Shot Putt of 7.63m.

Adanya Hott competed in the U14 1500m and 800m.  This was Adanya's first 1500m and in a group of approx 25 she ran a very strong race finishing 8th. She ran in the 800m heats on Day 2 but still tired from her 1500m on Day 1 did not make the finals.

Aoife Kelly competed in the U/14 200m, 80m and Long Jump. Aoife ran a strong 200m but unfortunately didn't make it to the finals. Day 2 was a great day for Aoife where she not only jumped a PB of 4.62m  in the Long Jump but finishing 4th meant she also qualified for the All Irelands. Her 80m sprint heat was very fast and Aoife ran a good race but did not make the finals.

Lisa Aspel competed in the U/15 Sprint Hurdles, Long Hurdles, 200m & Inter County Relay.  Lisa had a fantastic weekend medalling in all events.  In the sprint hurdles the top 3 girls all ran inside the current championship best time where Lisa finished 2nd to win her first medal of the weekend.  In the 200m Lisa qualified from her heat to go on and finish 3rd in the final.  In the 250m Hurdles with a strong field and a fast race Lisa finished joint 2nd.  The Kildare Inter County Relay team ran on Saturday where Lisa ran the final leg of this team event to help her team pick up a Silver medal.

Jonny McKenny competed in U/15 Long Jump, 200m, Shot Putt & Inter County Relay.  Jonny also had a good weekend qualifying for the All Irelands in all his individual events where he finished 3rd in Long Jump, 4th in 200m and 3rd in Shot Putt.  In the 200m event Jonny comfortably won his heat but was in a strong field in the final and in a time of 24.71s finished 4th.  Jonny had also been selected for the Inter County Relay team where he ran in 1st position leading all the way with his Kildare team to win a Gold medal.

Kathryn Weir competed in the U/19 Shot Putt & Discus.  Kathryn once again showed us how great a thrower she is with 1st place in the Shot with a throw of 10.51m and then medalling again winning Gold in the Discus.

Kildare Juvenile League, Round 3, Celbridge (11th June 2013)
Well done to the 25 juvenile athletes who came to Celbridge to compete in the 3rd round of the league on a very wet evening.  It was great to see everybody compete in their events and do so well.  From the performances last night we are well on the way to winning section C of the league.  Only 1 more round to go!

Leinster U9-U15 Team Event, Celbridge (8th June 2013)
We had 2 teams take part in this event where a team of 4 athletes each compete in 2 events plus a relay.  Points are awarded for the combined position of the athletes in each event and the team with the lowest number of points is the winner.  This was the first year these athletes had competed in this event and it was a very warm and enjoyable day.  The Girls U/10 were Anna Gibbons, Molly O'Loughlin, Caitlin Keogh and Hannah Breen.  The Boys U/10 team were Paddy Taylor, Aidan McMahon, Scott Cardiff, Tom Healy & James Deane.  There was a lot of competition at this event with 125 teams taking part.

Although no medals were won good performances were put in by the athletes and great experience gained.  Some of the results (combined) were: Girls U/10: 600m - 4.35mins, Long Jump - 5.84m, 60m - 20.6s, Turbo Jav - 16.94m, Relay 70.00s.  Boys U/10: 600m - 4.67 mins, Long Jump - 6.92m, Turbo Jav - 27.95m.

Leinster U9-U12 Pairs, Leinster U12, Leinster Junior Championships & Inter County Relays, Tullamore (24th May 2013)
Leinster Championships are great events to gain valuable experience and test yourself against athletes from other counties.  We had athletes compete in all the various championships being held today and some great performances were given.

In the Junior Womens competition Kathryn Weir competed in both Discus & Shot where she picked up 2 silver medals and set 2 seasons best performances.  Well done Kathryn.

In the Leinster U12s we had 4 athletes competing: Katelynn O'Brien, John Healy, Callum McElhinney & Colm McMahon.  Katelynn competed in Long Jump and 60m where she did really well for the first time competing at Leinster level.  Colm McMahon did well in Long Jump where he made it through to the final 8 and then went on to run a good sprint in his 60m.  Callum McElhinney competed in 60m, 600m and Long Jump where he faced tough competition in all his events.  John Healy competed in the Shot Putt and improved with each throw where he went from 4th in the competition, then with a last throw of 7.69m went home with a bronze Leinster medal.

In the Leinster Pairs we had 4 pairs competing made up of Tom Healy, Scott Cardiff, James Deane, Caitlin Keogh, Sophie Ngai, Hannah Breen & Molly O'Loughlin.  The girls all competed in Long Jump and 60m where Sophie & Hannah had a combined jump of 6.46m to finish with Bronze U10 medals.  Molly and Caitlin were not too far off the mark with their combined jump of 6.29m.  In the 60m all girls ran well with Sophie & Hannah both finishing strongly to pick up silver medals, their 2nd of the day.

James & Scott were a pair in the U/10 boys Turbo Jav where they both threw over 13 metres to give a combined throw of 27.85m and take a Gold medal.  In the Long Jump Tom & James finished in 8th place with respectable jumps of 3.01m & 3.03m to give a combined 6.04m.  Scott & Tom then paired at the end of the day where they both ran really well.

Finally, Jill O'Toole, who was selected to run for Kildare in the U11 Inter County Relay started well putting the Kildare team in pole position at the first changeover.  The team went on to finish 2nd and win Jill a Silver Leinster Medal.

Scott, James, Sophie & Hannah qualify for the All Ireland Pairs finals in Donegal next month.  While John qualifies for the All Ireland Individuals in Tullamore during July.  Well done to them and all who took part today.

Leinster Relay Championships, Greystones (19th May 2013)
2 teams took part in the Leinster Relay Championships in Greystones today where over 250 relay teams had been entered across the Competition.

The U/10 girls team of Anna Gibbons, Sophie Ngai, Molly O'Loughlin & Hannah Breen ran an excellent race in their heat to finish 1st and get automatic qualification to the final.  In the final Anna had a great start, followed by Sophie who stormed up the track, then onto Molly who ran a fantastic bend and finally to Hannah who finished of the race in style and picked up Bronze Leinster medals for the girls with a time of 1.05.24.

The U/14 girls team of Molly Aspell, Lauren O'Gorman, Adanya Hott & Aoife Kelly were unfortunate not to make it out of their heats but all gave 100% effort to record a time of 59.16s.

Kildare County B Championships, Crookstown (18th May 2013)
It was a very successful day for our 6 athletes who competed at the County B Championships.

Anna Gibbons, Jessica Bostrom, Katelynn O'Brien, Thomas Keane, Ben Kelly Davis & Adanya Hott all competed today and all came away with at least 1 medal.

Anna had a fantastic run in her 80m sprint to finish in 1st place then follow this great result with another 1st in Ball Throw with a throw of 18.50m.

The final round of the Kildare League took place in Naas today.  Once again we had a poor turnout for this event with only 7 athletes turning up to compete.  Thanks to the athletes who did compete and gave their best to accumulate league points for the club.  They were U/8s - Emily Quigley, Amy Moore & Danny McGough who competed in 150m & Ball Throw; U/9s - Scott Cardiff & James Dean who competed in 80m & 200m; U/12s Sean Moore & Molly Aspell who competed in 80m, 150m & Ball Throw.

Also held today was a County Championship 200m race for U12s.  This was a final which had to be rerun due to problems with the race back in May.  Sean Moore had qualified to run but unfortunately came 4th and out of the medals - but we know that if this race had been run back in May or June the outcome would have been different!!

Lisa Aspel was competing in U14 Hurdles and High Jump this weekend and after winning the 1st heat in the 75m Hurdles Lisa came from behind in the final to finish the last few metres very strongly and take a fantastic 1st place.  Great result Lisa and well done.  Lisa also did High Jump where she jumped 1.25m.

Leinster U13-U19 T&F Championships, Tullamore (30th June & 1st July 2012)
It was a great weekend at the U13-U19 Leinster championships in Tullamore.
First up on Saturday were Aoife Kelly and Lauren OGorman in the U13 Long jump where Aoife attained a new Personal Best (PB). Lauren went on to compete well in the 80m sprint and the shot put, putting in good performances in both. Aoife also competed well in the shotput and ran well in the 800m to claim a place in the final.

Jonny McKenna had a fantastic weekend in his first Leinster competition where he finished the weekend with four medals: 2 golds in the sprints, a silver in the Long jump, and a bronze medal for the county relay team.  Lisa Aspel  ran well to claim bronze medals in both the Hurdles and the 200m and she also finished 4th in the High jump to qualify for the All Irelands in that event as well.

Katie and Laura Quigley both competed in the long jump with Laura achieving a bronze medal and she also qualified for another All Ireland place with a fourth position in the High Jump. Katie qualified for the All Irelands with some good consistent throwing in discus securing her 4th place.

Tara Breen had to pull out of the sprints due to an injury she was carrying, but competed well to achieve a PB in the shot put competition.  Ciara Dunne had another successful Leinster competition winning Gold in discus and only narrowly being pipped into silver medal position in the shotput.

Roisin Crowe and Adanya Hott fought hard in the longer distance races (1500m and 600m respectively) where the pace was very fast and both did well finishing in good times.

Kathryn Weir was another athlete who had a great competition achieving 4medals: 2 gold (Long Jump and Shotput) and 2 silver (Discus and Triple Jump)

Overall it was a great weekend of athletics packed with excitement, determination, and great athleticism.  Well done to all who competed and good luck in the All Irelend Championshiops to all those who qualified.

Leinster Junior & U23 Championships, Dunboyne & Navan (16th June 2012)
The Leinster Junior & U23 Championships took place in both Dunboyne & Navan today.  Kathryn Weir competed first in Dunboyne where she entered the Junior Discus competition and came 4th and then drove up to Navan to compete in the Junior Triple Jump in which she came 3rd.  Think her driver probably deserves a medal as well!!

Thomas Hickey competed in the U23 Mens 200m where he got off to a bad start when he was disqualified for a false start but then went on to win Gold in both Long Jump and Triple Jump.

Leinster U9-U11 Pairs & U12 Championships, Navan (16th June 2012)
Unfortunately we had only 2 athletes competing today after the event had been postponed from last week - our U9 and U11 boys teams were unable to travel.

Sean Moore competed in U/12 High Jump, Long Jump and Ball Throw while Molly Aspel competed in U/12 600m.

Sean competed in the High Jump competition where he cleared 1.18m to finish in joint 4th place. This was a great result as Sean has only taken up this discipline. In the Long Jump, Sean jumped 3.84m but was unable to make it through to the final 8. However, in the Ball Throw he threw a massive 52.10m to win Gold and force the judges to get a longer measuring tape!

Molly ran a great heat in the 600m to qualify for the final but in this race got boxed in at the start but finished strongly in 7th place.

Kildare Juvenile League Round 3, Crookstown (6th June 2012)

We had 30 athletes compete in the 3rd round of the League in Crookstown tonight.  Everyone performed well so we will wait and see if all that effort has paid off and lifted us off the bottom of the league!!

Leinster Team Event, Celbridge (4th June 2012)

All athletes competed very well and the day finished with Gold medals going to the U/15 girls team.  Well done to all athletes.  It's a great team event to take part in and Celbridge did a great job at hosting.

Leinster Combined Events Championships, Greystones (20th May 2012)
The combined events championships took place in Greystones today.  This event is where athletes take part in 5 different athletic disciplines and are awarded points on their performance in each which are then totalled after each event.

Lisa Aspel was competing in the U14 Girls and with a great 75m Hurdles was leading the competition from the start.  Lisa stayed in front throughout Shot Putt, Long Jump and High Jump and although did not win the final event which is 800m had put enough points on her scoresheet to keep the lead and win Gold.

In the U15 Girls Katie Quigley and Laura Quigley competed.  In opposite form to Lisa did not have a great 80m Hurdles but pulled back points gradually through the next events with Katie coming 2nd in Shot, Long Jump and 800m and Laura winning High Jump and 800m to finish 2nd and 3rd place respectively.

It is a great event to take part in and watch.  Well done.

St Laurence O'Toole Open Sports (22nd April 2012)
A few of our athletes travelled to Carlow in the rain today to compete in SLOT Open Sports.  As our County Championships are next week this was a great warm up event to attend.

On the track Aidan & Emily put in great effort as usual and it is great to see our younger athletes coming along to Open Sports.  Colm qualified for the 80m final and holding onto 3rd place for most of the race was pipped at the line and unfortunately out of the medals but a great race.  Molly ran a great 500m where she kept in the top half of athletes until 200m left when she went up a gear to have a great finish and pick up a bronze medal.  Aoife qualified for her sprint final and ran a great race to finish 3rd.  Lauren also qualified for the sprint final but was unlucky to finish outside of the medals, likewise in the 600m. Adanya competed in the 600m where there was a strong field of athletes and finished outside of the medals. Katie had a straight final in the 100m where she finished 2nd.

In field events Colm competed in the Ball Throw where he had a throw of 25.58m. Aoife threw 6.35m in Shot to win a 3rd place medal.  Adanya & Lauren also competed in shot. In the U/15s we had Brendan Aspel and Roisin Crowe, both did very well.

Hopefully for the next round of the League we will have a lot more athletes compete as the more we have the more points we can earn.

Crookstown Open Sports (15th April 2012)
It was a great start to the outdoor track & field season today when we held our Annual Open Sports Event.  The weather held and our athletes had some good competition.  Our new event, Discus, proved popular and gave us a chance to show of the new Discus Cage that Ian and Brendan have worked hard on over the past months.

Some of our newer athletes competed today and even if no medals were won they had a good day out.  We look forward to seeing them again over the next few weeks and improving all the time.

Our seasoned athletes also competed and used today as good practise for upcoming County Competitions.

Thank you to all parents who helped, sponsors who supported us and all the other clubs who attended.

AAI Juvenile B Cross Country Championship, Lough Key Forest Park (5th February 2012)

We had 4 athletes compete today in Lough Key and first up was Molly Aspell in the Girls U/11 1500m. AAI Juvenile Combined Events, Nenagh (28 January 2012)
Lisa Aspel, Katie Quigley & Laura Quigley took part in the Juvenile Combined Events today, where each athlete competes in 5 events and is awarded points for their results.   An excellent day was had by Lisa Aspel in the Under 14 competition where she had numerous Personal Bests to finally be awarded 4th place which is a fantastic result this early in the season.
Katie & Laura Quigley did not have such a great day with disappointment in some events for both but with very few points between 7th and 16th place the girls did well and know what they need to improve on.  Training for Hurdles, Long Jump, Shot Putt, High Jump and 800m at the same time is very hard indeed.

Leinster Juvenile Relays & Leinster Senior Championships, Nenagh (29 January 2012)
For the first time in a few years we managed to field more than 1 relay team at a Leinster Championship!
The Girls U13 team of Aoife Kelly, Adanya Hott, Lauren O'Gorman and Molly Aspell took part in the 4 x 100m with 18 other teams.  Unfortunately their time of 64.70s in the second heat was not good enough to get them through to the final but watching the girls run you would have to think that with a bit more time together they will be able to win some medals.
The U15 Girls team of Laura Quigley, Lisa Aspel, Tara Breen and Katie Quigley took part in the 4 x 200m competition, and true to form for this relay team who have been together for a while, ran a great heat to qualify in 2nd fastest position.  They then ran the final and took a well deserved silver medal, especially since 3 of the team had put in a full day of competition yesterday at the combined events.
In the Senior competition Thomas Hickey competed in Shot Putt and 60m.  In the Shot, Thomas came 4th and unfortunately in the 60m was disqualified for a false start.

Well done to all and to the parents for the long weekend in Nenagh.

AAI Junior Championships, Nenagh (22 January 2012)
Kathryn Weir competed in her 1st Junior Competition today and although did not win any medals set a PB in Long Jump and threw well in Shot Putt. This is a big step up from the juvenile competition so well done Kathryn.

Unfortunately it wasn't good enough for a club medal, but Kildare finished in 3rd place overall, with Aoife, Adayna and Molly finishing in the top 10 Kildare athletes.

Alison Keatley competed in the Girls U/18 4000m, Alison ran a very competent race and finished in 13th place.

Well done to all girls, and thanks to Brian for all his hard work and training.

The B championships took place in Leixlip on Sunday 4th September. It was a very successful day for Crookstown Millview AC with all three of our competing athletes bringing home a total of 5 medals. Molly Aspell ran an exceptional (U11) 100M coming in third place and securing a bronze medal. With very little time between events, she then ran a 600M where she got off to a blistering start and finished with another silver for the club. Aoife Kelly and Adanya Hott competed next in the U12 events. Aoife ran a very confident and strong 100M and finished first place. Adanya and Aoife ran a blistering 800M and with a very exciting sprint for the finish, Aoife won the gold and Adanya the silver. Well done to all three girls.

The B Championships took place in Tullamore today. This was the final AAI Track & Field event of the 2011 season. It is open to all athletes who have competed in Provincial championships but who did not qualify for any of the recent AAI Championships.

Lisa Aspel competed in the U/13 competition today and took Gold in the Long Jump with a jump of 4.06m. Lisa also competed in the 600m but was unfortunate not to win a second medal.

AAI Juvenile Combined Events, Tullamore (30th July 2011)

The All Ireland Combined Events took place in Tullamore today. Katie Quigley & Laura Quigley competed in the U14 Pentathlon which consists of 75m Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt and 800m.

Katie finished 5th overall with a points total of 2289 which was an improvement from the Indoors of 535 points while Laura finished 6th overall with a points total of 2285 which was an improvement of 921.

Well done girls.

AAI U12-U19 T&F Championships, Tullamore (23rd & 24th July 2011)
Kathryn Weir, Ciara Dunne & Katie Quigley competed this weekend in individual events while Cliodhna O'Connor, Tara Breen, Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley & Lisa Aspel competed in relay events.

Kathryn Weir was competing in the U/17 Girls Shot Putt competition and with an excellent throw of 10.85m to match her PB won silver.

Next up was Ciara Dunne in the U/15 Shot Putt and, with a hint of smile, Ciara smashed a previous competition record by 25cm to take Gold with a throw of 12.85m. Congratulations from all at the club to Ciara for her second gold medal of these championships.

Our only athlete on the track on Saturday was Katie Quigley in the U/14 200m. Katie finished 4th in her heat and was unfortunate not to qualify to her final.

On Sunday our U14 girls relay team were on the track against some tough competition and after qualifying to the final ran an excellent race to finish 5th in a time of 55.41s.

Lisa Aspel was part of the County Relay team at U13 level along with athletes from Naas and Newbridge who finished 6th.

AAI U12-U19 T&F Championships, Tullamore (9th & 10th July 2011)
3 of our athletes competed this weekend at the All Ireland Championships in Tullamore.

Ciara Dunne competed this weekend in the U/15 Discus and Long Jump. Ciara threw a fantastic 29.41m in Discus to win Gold. In the Long Jump she jumped 4.49m, which is not a personal best, but still a great jump to finish 9th.

Laura Quigley competed in U/14 Shot Putt and 800m. In Shot, Laura was disappointed to throw 9.19m which is below her personal best but in the 800m she ran 2.34.30 and although finishing 11th matched her personal best. We can't ask for more!!

Kathryn Weir competed in the U17 Discus this morning and threw 25.79m to finish in 7th position, which was a great result considering Kathryn has done more work with Junior Cert books than on the athletics track recently.

Look forward to the 23rd and 24th July for the next days of the T&F Championships.

Kildare T&F Juvenile League Round 4, Newbridge (3rd July 2011)

Over the 4 rounds of the league these dedicated juvenile athletes have been great at travelling around the county competing for points for the club, but unfortunately as we did not have the numbers turning up this year we finished bottom of Group B.

On a much more positive note, although we had the lowest turnout of athletes from clubs in the league we came away today with trophies going to 3 Highest Point Scorers in their age group. These athletes were Molly Aspell in the U/11 Girls, Katie Quigley in the U/14 Girls and Ciara Dunne in the U/15 Girls.

Well done and Congratulations to all who won trophies, all who competed and a big thank you from me to the parents who brought the athletes along.

The athletes who competed were: U/8 Emily Quigley & Aidan McMahon; U/9 Rachel Keane & Harry Mallon; U/10 Colm McMahon; U/11 Molly Aspell & Luke Hennessy; U/12 Aoife Kelly; U/13 Lisa Aspel & Tadhg Hennessy; U/14 Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley & Brendan Aspel; U/15 Ciara Dunne & Aaron Hennessy.

The athletes who took part were:

Medals or not, you have all shown what talented athletes we have at our club. Well done to all.

With all the points added the Girls team won a well deserved 1st place and Gold medals all round.

Leinster Junior & U23 Championships, Kilkenny (29th May 2011)
Thomas Hickey was our only athlete competing today at Kilkenny City Harriers Track for the U23 Leinster Championships.

Thomas did us all proud picking up silver medals in Long Jump and Shot Putt then winning Javelin and taking home Gold.

Kildare T&F Juvenile League Round 2, Celbridge (14th May 2011)
The 2nd round of the Juvenile League took place in Celbridge in the wind & rain. There was a disappointing turn out of athletes today - we only had 11 children competing. Saying that, the children who did come along performed fantastically and gave 110% with top scoring places on the track and in field events. Our athletes today were: U/8 Emily Quigley; U/11 Molly Aspell & Luke Hennessy; U12 Adanya Hott and Aoife Kelly; U/13 Tadhg Hennessy; U/14 Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, Tara Breen & Cliodhna O'Connor; U/15 Aaron Hennessy.

Kildare County T&F Championships, Day 2, Celbridge (8th May 2011)
Today saw the 2nd Day of the Kildare Championships in Celbridge. It was very windy but the rain stayed off for most of the day.

In the U/11 boys Sean Moore had a great day taking Gold in Long Jump with a fantastic jump of 3.89m then following it up with a Gold in Ball Throw with a throw of 32.20m into a strong wind. Molly Aspell competed in the Girls U/11s in both 80m and 600m. Molly qualified easily for the semi-finals and finals in the 80m but fell just short in the final. In the 600m, once again Molly put in a huge effort and came up at her favourite place - 4th!!

Aoife Kelly and Adanya Hott were in the Girls U/12 Long Jump and 200m. Aoife jumped 3.43m to take Bronze in the Long Jump with Adanya just out of the medals. In the 200m Aoife was comfortably through to the final and like Molly also seems to find 4th her favourite placing at the moment. Although Adanya did not make the 200m finals she competed well today.

Lisa Aspel was our only U/13 and although did not make the medals in her 100m sprint, was able to pull back from the middle of the pack in the last 150m of her 600m to take Bronze. Lisa also picked up Bronze in her shot putt with a throw of 6.78m.

Tara also competed in Long Jump, 80m & 800m but was unfortunate not to pick up a medal. Laura threw 7.96m in the U/15 Shot to pick up a bronze medal. In the 800m a fast pace meant Laura had her work cut out but she kept the lead in sight and with 150 metres to go picked up her pace to take 1st place. Katie performed well in her sprint to take 3rd place and jumped 4.08m in Long Jump for a silver medal. Katie & Laura also made up both the U/14 and U/16 relay teams.

Scottish National Indoor Championships, Glasgow (5th March 2011)
It was an early start on Friday Morning as the seven athletes representing County Kildare dragged themselves out of their beds and headed for Dublin airport . Arriving early in Glasgow on the Friday meant the group had time to look around the city centre and take the opportunity to indulge in a little shopping before heading back to the hotel to try and get a few hours sleep in the afternoon. Then it was out to eat, and early to bed in order to get ready for a big day at the Scottish National U17 / U20 Competition. It was another early start on Saturday as the team made its way to the excellent facilities at Kelvin Hall, and the the events kicked off at 09:30. Kathryn was competing at 11:30 for the U17 women's shotput, which was a hard fought competition and it was extremely close at the top for the medal positions. It was an excellent result for Kathryn as she claimed the gold medal with a throw of 9.58m with her final throw of the competition. After a celebratory meal on saturday night it was yet another early start on Sunday morning to head back to Glasgow airport, and fly home for a well deserved rest.

Leinster Indoor Championships, Days 2 & 3, Nenagh (12th & 13th February)
It was a busy weekend with 8 of our athletes competing in Nenagh. 3 Leinster medals were won but more importantly for a lot of athletes, personal bests were beaten so even for the athletes who came away without medals they were all smiling.

Aoife Kelly competed in her first Leinster indoors competition in both the U/12 Long Jump and 600m. Aoife finished in 8th place in her long jump with a jump of 3.55m but outside of qualification time from the 600m heats.

In the U/13 competition Lisa Aspel competed in the Long Jump and 60m. Lisa jumped 3.92m in Long Jump but with tough competition was unable to advance from her heat in the 60m.

In the U/14 competition Laura Quigley, Tara Breen, Cliodhna O'Connor and Katie Quigley competed. Tara threw 6.38m in the Shot Putt and jumped xx in the Long Jump. Katie jumped 3.96m in the Long Jump and was unfortunate not to advance out of the 60m heats. Laura threw 8.21m in the Shot Putt and although running a very fast heat in the 800m and qualifying for the final had to pull out with a muscle injury. Cliodhna won the 2nd heat of the 800m in great style and advanced to the final but finished just outside the medals in 5th place.

In the U/15, U/17 and U/19 competition our Shot Putters all won medals. First up was Ciara Dunne who won Gold with a throw of 10.89m. Kathryn Weir won Gold with a throw of 10.85m and Charles Weir won Silver with a throw of 9.66m.

For the first time Kathryn also took part in High Jump and although she was not in contention for a medal did fantastically well to try a new discipline.

Well done to all who competed and Good Luck to our medal winners in the All Ireland Finals next month.

All Ireland B Cross Country Championships, ALSAA (6th February 2011)
On a wet and very windy day 2 of our athletes: Cliodhna O'Connor and Alison Keatley headed to ALSAA in Dublin for the final Juvenile Cross Country Championships of this years season. Cliodhna was running in the U/13 race and with a great start and staying in the leading group for the whole race finished 2nd to claim an individual medal and a county medal. Alison ran in the U/17 race and with all the hours of hard training behind her finished in 6th to also pick up an individual medal. Unfortunately there was no County team in this age group.

Leinster Indoor Championships, Day 1, Nenagh (30th January 2011)
On Day 1 of the Leinster Indoor Championships which includes the Juvenile Relays the Girls U14 entered in the 4 x 200m. The relay team of Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, Lisa Aspel, Cliodhna O'Connor and Tara Breen were in the 1st heat of the U/14 competition. Katie got off to a great start keeping up to 1st place KCH when after 200m the race was stopped due to problems with the timing system. As qualification to the finals is purely on time the race was re-run. Once again Katie got a great start and passed to Laura in 2nd place. Laura kept up the pace and staying in 2nd place to KCH passed to Lisa who put in another great 200m to pass to Cliodhna. Cliodhna kept 2nd place and with a fast heat the girls qualified to the final. Unfortunately in the final we were not able to keep up the same pace as the heats and did not claim a medal but put in a fantastic performance to finish 4th in Leinster. Well done.

Our only senior athlete of the day was Thomas Hickey who is just back training after 4 years away from athletics. Thomas competed in the Long Jump and Shot Putt. Welcome back Thomas.

Celtic Games, Cardiff (30th January)
Kathryn Weir was competing in Cardiff today, representing her school and Ireland in Shot Putt. In a fantastic achievement Kathryn threw a PB of 9.99m with a 4kg shot to take 3rd place. Congrats from all in Crookstown.

Results 2010

Leinster Cross Country Odd Age Championships, Adamstown (7th  November 2010)
Well done to our 7 athletes who competed in the Leinster Cross Country Odd Age Championships.  No matter what the results today we knew how much training the athletes had put in and how well they had progressed recently.  The positions given below are from my counting so will adjust when the official results are released later in the week.

The U/11 girls Aoife Kelly, Adanya Hott and Molly Aspell were in the first race of the day.  With 160 girls on the start line it was always going to be tough but the girls ran a great race finishing Aoife 53rd, Molly 54th and Adanya 59th with the County team coming 4th.

Sean Finn was in the boys U/11 race and ran a good, tough race to finish 29th.  No County results available at present.

Next up were Cliodhna O'Connor and Laura Quigley in the girls U/13 2500m.  Again approx 160 girls were on the start line so a good start was going to be vital.  Cliodhna had a great start and was up at the front of the pack after the first 500m.  She held her pace and finished in an excellent 10th position to win an individual medal.  We are still waiting for County results.  Laura did not get a great start and was unable to make up the loss and finished further down the field.

Last to run was Alison Keatley in the U/17 4500m.  Alison started well and with excellent running managed to hold her place in the top 12 for the full race and finished in 10th to claim our second individual medal of the day.  Again, no County results available at the moment.

Leinster Cross Country Even Age Championships,  Mullingar (24th October 2010)
On a beautiful sunny Autumn morning 2 Athletes competed for Crookstown Millview Athletic Club in the Leinster Cross County Championships in Belvedere House, Mullingar on Sunday 24th October. Molly Aspell in the Girls U/10 1000m and Lisa Aspel in the Girls U/12 2000m.

Molly was first up in the girls U/10 race and it was her first time at this level and she ran a positive race and finished in a very impressive 15th place.

Lisa ran in the Girls U/12 and finished in 47th place out of over 100 athletes, she was 6th in for Kildare, who unfortunately were placed just out of the medals in fourth place.

Well done to both girls.

Kildare County XC Championships Even Ages, Narraghmore (10th October 2010)
The second round of the Cross Country Championships took place across from our track in very warm weather for October.  This was the first time this course had been used and it was a great venue.  We had seven athletes competing today: Molly Aspell U/10, Lisa Aspel U/12, Aoife Kelly U/12, Laura Quigley U/14, Cliodhna O'Connor U/14, Tony Aspel U/16 and Alison Keatley U/18.

There were a lot of great races but unfortunately only 1 individual medal which went to Alison Keatley who came 2nd in the girls U/18 4000m, who ran a great race and certainly deserved her medal.

Earlier, Molly Aspell was in the first race of the day in the Girls U/10 600m.  Molly had a good start in a large field of girls and finished in a well deserved 6th place.

Lisa Aspel & Aoife Kelly were in the Girls U/12 1500m.  Aoife was running out of her age at this race so did excellent to complete the course in 22nd place.  Lisa had a great race and finished in 8th place.

In the girls U/14 2000m race Cliodhna O'Connor and Laura Quigley lined up for the club.  With both girls running out their age they both ran well to finish in 4th & 7th place.  Looking forward to watching you run in Leinster.

Tony Aspel ran in the boys U/16 3500m.  This was Tony's first race back after a year of knee injuries.  After a fantastic start and in the leading pack Tony had to pull up with about 1500m left due to pain in his knee.

Next up Leinster....see you all there.

Kildare County XC Championships Uneven Ages, Eire Og (3rd October 2010)
The first round of the Cross Country Championships took place in Eire Og, Caragh with races for U/9 to U/19.  We had 7 Crookstown athletes along with Cliodhna & Ciara O'Connor who ran as Independents.

Molly Aspell, Adanya Hott and Aoife Kelly lined up for the girls U/11 1200m and what fantastic results with Aoife finishing 5th, Molly 10th and Adanya 12th.  Just seems a shame we couldn't have made up a team!

Sean Finn then competed in the boys U/11 1200m and after a great race where Sean had to constantly fight for position he finished in a strong 3rd place.

Lisa Aspel, Laura Quigley and Cliodhna O'Connor were up next in the girls U/13 1800m.  Unfortunately Laura had to pull out of the race after about 1400m but Cliodhna who was up front from the start finished 2nd and Lisa, running up an age, finished 11th.

Alison Keatley, in her first race for Crookstown in a few years competed in the girls U/17 3500m where all her hard training showed through when she was up with the leaders from the start and finished in 2nd.  Ciara O'Connor, competing in the girls U/19 3500m also ran a great race and finished 2nd in her age category.

Well done to you all.

Star of the Sea AC Open Cross Country (26th September 2010)
On a lovely sunny day we had four athletes competing in Greenanstown. The course is a great test of Cross Country running - well done to Star of the Sea AC for a great venue and a great competition.

Molly Aspell ran in the U/10 girls 500 metres race. She ran a great race just missing out on the medals and finishing in 9th place.  Adanya Hott ran in the U/11 girls 1000m.  It was a tough race and Adanya did well to finish 12th.  Last to run were Laura Quigley and Cliodhna O'Connor in the girls U/13 1500m.  Both had a great start and were in the top 3 for most of the race, even after 2 hard hills. In the last 400m Cliodhna sprinted home to a brilliant 1st place, Laura found the last few hundred hard but still finished well in 6th so both went home with medals.

Adamstown Open  Cross Country (19th September 2010)
Although it was raining when we left Kildare it cleared away as we drove towards the Sunny Southeast.  This was the 1st Cross Country Competition of the season and Molly Aspell, Adanya Hott and Laura Quigley competed for the club.

First up in U/10 girls 1000m was Molly Aspell who got a great start and was able to stay with the top group and went on to finish a fantastic 5th.  Next to run was Adanya Hott in the U/11 girls 1000m.  This was Adanya's first competitive race and she did herself proud by finishing strongly in 5th place.  Last to race was Laura Quigley in the U/13 girls 1500m.  Laura did very well and with tough competition finished in 7th place.

Well done girls and we look forward to seeing you compete over the rest of the Cross Country Season.

Navan AC Open Sports (19th September 2010)

The last Track and Field event of 2010 for our athletes looked initially like it might be a damp end to the season as the rain threatened to set in for the day at Claremont Stadium, Navan.  However, the weather picked up, and by the time the athletes got out onto the track to warm-up the day started to brighten.  It wasn't long before the track events got going and the medal count for the six athletes that had made the journey started to rack up as they secured 5 medals in the sprints (1 silver and 4 bronze). The throwing events proved successful as well with 3 gold medals and a bronze in the shotput and ball throw. Two further medals were secured in the long jump (a gold and silver) and a bronze medal for 800m concluded an impressive display from our athletes.

The individual results were as follows:-

Sean Moore (U10) - Bronze for 80m, and Gold for Ball throw; Lisa Aspel  (U12)  - Bronze for 100m; Kate Quigley (U13) - Bronze for Shot; Aaron Hennessy (U14) - Bronze for 100m and Bronze for 800m; Ciara Dunne (U14) - Silver for 100m, Gold for Shot and Silver for Long Jump; Kathryn Weir (U16) - Bronze for 100m, Gold for Shot and Gold for Long Jump

It was a fantastic day at Navan with the 6 athletes bringing home 12 medals, and the traditional end of season trip to Super Macs on the way home rounded off a great weekend of athletics, and another successful Track and Field season for Crookstown-Millview.

AAI Outdoor B Championships, Tullamore (1st August 2010)
Tara Breen, Katie Quigley & Laura Quigley travelled to Tullamore for the last track competition of the summer to compete in the All Ireland B Championships.  All 3 girls are U13 and competed in 2 events each.  Tara was first up in the Shot Putt competition and with a personal best throw of 6.18m claimed a well deserved bronze medal.  Katie was next in the 80m heats where she qualified comfortably in 2nd place.

The Long Jump was next and all 3 girls competed.  Laura picked up a bronze medal with a jump of 3.84m while Katie finished in 4th place with a jump of 3.78m.  Katie and Laura went immediately back to the track where Katie had a great finish to her season winning a silver medal in the 80m, while Laura had a great run and was just beaten on the finish line to pick up silver.  Well done on some really good performances.

AAI Outdoor T&F Championships, Tullamore (24th & 25th July 2010)
Kathryn Weir competed in the U/16 Discus competition on Saturday and with a personal best throw of 23.57m came 6th overall.  On Sunday 3 athletes from Crookstown made up the U/13 Inter County Relay team.  Unfortunately Cliodhna O'Connor had to withdraw through injury but Ellie O'Toole from Newbridge joined Katie, Laura and Tara to make up the team.  After good runs from all the girls finished 5th.  Well done to you all.

AAI Outdoor T&F Championships, Tullamore (3rd & 4th July 2010)
What a spectacular way to start the weekend, the first event of the competition and Ciara Dunne jumped a superb 4.80m to win the girls Under 14 Long Jump. A gold medal in the bag and it was still only 11am on Saturday. It wasn't long until Ciara was back battling for medals in the shotput and another impressive achievement winning the silver medal with a throw of 11.91m.

We returned on Sunday and Ciara was on form again in her third competition of the championships and another medal to add to the collection as she got a silver medal in the discus. Kathryn Weir was next up with her first event of the championships and she kept the medal tally going as she also got an excellent silver medal in the Girls Under 16 shotput throwing the 3.25Kg shot an impressive 10.92m. This truly was a memorable weekend with 2 athletes competing in 4 events and coming home with a gold and three silver medal.

Ciara Dunnes' achievement this weekend was astonishing, anyone who has been around athletics for any length of time will tell you it is an incredible feat to win any All Ireland medal, and to win three in three different individual events is truly awesome.

And its not over yet, Kathryn Weir has to wait another three weeks (24th July)  for her chance to contend for a Discus medal, and on the following day (25th July) our Under 13 girls Tara Breen, Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, and Cliondha O'Connor (currently with Naas)  will represent Kildare at the All Ireland relay finals - good luck to all the girls who I'm sure will do us all proud on that last weekend of All Ireland Track and Field competition for 2010.

Kildare League Round 4, Crookstown (27th June 2010)
The final round of the league ran off today in great conditions and with a great atmosphere.  On the down side, we just don't have the numbers we need to pick up points for the Club in our league but with 3 individual trophies from the 13 athletes who competed over the 4 rounds you should all be very proud.

In the U/8s Tara Finn threw 14.35m in Ball Throw and in her very first race for the club Rachel Keane came 3rd in 150m.

Sean Moore and Molly Aspell competed in the U/10s with Sean jumping 3.58m in the Long Jump, coming 2nd in his 150m and going on to win the highest scoring individual trophy in that age group.  Molly came 4th in her U/10 100m and then in one of the best races of the day fought hard all the way and claimed 2nd place in the 150m.

In the U/11s Aoife Kelly, who is improving all the time, put in two great races and came 2nd in her 80m and 3rd in 150m.  Sean Finn came 4th in the U/11 60m and 5th in the 150m. Lisa Aspel competed in the U/12 Long Jump and 600m and picked up a 2nd.

Tara Breen, Katie Quigley and Laura Quigley had 600m and Ball Throw in the U/13s.  Once again the girls finished 1,2 & 3 with Katie getting the honours this time.   Laura went on to win the girls U/13 individual Highest Point Scorer.

Aaron Hennessy and Ciara Dunne were U/14 with Ciara coming 2nd in her 60m final and then ending the day with a win in the 1000m and also going on to win the U/14 Highest Point Scorer trophy.  Aaron won his U/14 150m well and went onto finish 3rd in 1000m.

Well done to you all and thanks to you and your parents for your support in the League.....

Leinster T&F Championships, Tullamore (19th & 20th June)
After 2 long and very hot days our athletes had every right to go home proud of their achievements.  With 5 Leinster medals and a lot of new PBs it was a successful weekend.  On Day 1 we had Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley & Tara Breen U/13, Aaron Hennessy & Ciara Dunne U/14, Kathryn Weir U/16 and Daniel Kearney U/18.  In the U/13 Long Jump, with 46 other athletes it was going to be a tough competition.  All girls jumped well and although Katie made it through to final 8 no medals were won.

Next up was the U/13 Shot with Personal Bests being set for all the girls of 5.49m for Tara, 7.64m for Katie & 7.08m for Laura.  Unfortunately these were not enough to secure Leinster medals.  Kathryn Weir was in the next Shot Putt and lead from the start with some fantastic throws and a personal best of 10.70m to secure a gold medal.  Ciara Dunne followed this with an impressive throw of 11.99m in the first throw of the U/14 Shot putt to set a new Leinster Outdoor Record and also win gold.

Aaron was first on the track in the U/14 200m race but after fast paced heats was unable to secure a place in the final.  Danny ran in his first Leinster Competition in the U/18 100m and although did not make it through to his final ran a very respectable race.

To finish the day Katie, Laura, Tara & Cliondha made up the U/13 Kildare Inter County Relay team and with great baton changing took 3rd place.

Day 2, started with Kathryn Weir in the U/16 Long Jump and with a personal best jump of 4.77m finished just out of qualification in 5th place.  Laura Quigley was on the track in the U/13 600m for her heats.  In a comfortable run Laura qualified for the finals to be run at the end of the day.  Unfortunately, after a poor start in her 600m final she was unable to make up lost ground but finished a respectable 6th.  Well done Laura.

In the U/14s Ciara Dunne had another successful day with a 3rd place medal in Long Jump and a Gold in Discus.  In the Long Jump, Ciara was placed 2nd going in the final 8 with fantastic jumps coming from all athletes including a personal best from Ciara of 4.77m.  In Discus, Ciara was on form and went into the lead with a throw of 25.22m.  Well done Ciara.

Kathryn Weir competed in the U/16 Discus and with some good throws threw 23.29m to secure a silver medal, her second of the Championships.  Well done Kathryn.

In the U/13 80m sprints there was a large field of athletes.  Katie Quigley competed in the first heat and qualified for the semi final.  Tara Breen ran in the second heat but was unable to qualify.  In the semi-finals Katie ran a great race in 11.77s to qualify for the final.  The U/13 final was a great race and Katie got a fantastic start out the blocks but was unable to hold her place and finished a very close 5th.  Hard Luck but well done Katie.

Good luck to Ciara in Kathryn in the All Irelands in 2 weeks time.

Kildare County Championships Day 2, Naas (16th May 2010)
Out came the picnics, rugs and chairs for the start of the final day of the County Championships. The sun managed to disappear before the start but the day remained warm and rain free despite the rolling clouds.

For our U10s athletes Sean More continued his gold medal run with a win at the 100m. Molly Aspell competed in the ball throw and long jump, and made it to the finals in the 100m.

Sean Finn and Aoife Kelly our U11s, ran well in the heats, Sean running the 200m and Aoife the 80 and 600m.

Lisa Aspel, the only athlete for the U12s jumped well in the long jump and took bronze in the 200m.

Laura and Katie both made it to the finals of the 100m with a very close finish in which Katie took the bronze with Laura close on her heels in fourth. In the 600m the girls took the lead from the start with Laura taking the gold and Katie the silver. In the shot put Kate took the gold and Laura the bronze when she was pushed from second to third with a throw just one cm further. Tara finished in fifth position.

Kathryn Weir had to jump two age groups from the U16s to the U18s to compete in the Long jump and finished with silver.  John Byrne also had to jump an age group from U17s to U18s to compete with Charles Weir in the shot put.  John finished in fourth position with Charles taking the silver.

St Laurence O'Toole AC Open Sports, Carlow (5th April 2010)
The first Open Sports of the season was very busy and very blustery.  Not the weather for setting any personal bests but with 15 Athletes competing for the club we came away with 18 medals so well done to all.

Tara Finn was first on the track in the U/8 80m.  Tara did well to finish second in her heat but missed out in her final.  Also competing in the 80m were Molly Aspell, Sean Moore, Aoife Kelly, Sean Finn, Katie Quigley, Brendan Aspel, Laura Quigley, Tara Breen, Lisa Aspel.  With great runs by all: Sean Moore, Sean Finn, Katie, Laura, Molly & Lisa made it to their finals and Sean Moore secured an U/10 silver medal.

Kathryn Weir was next up with 100m in the girls U/16 and with a straight final finished in 3rd place.  Then Tony Aspel's U/16 100m was also a straight final and he finished 2nd!!

Meanwhile at the Junior Men's Long Jump Danny Kearney put in a great show but failed to win a medal.  This was his first competition for the club so things can only get better.   Also in field events Charles Weir went up an age to compete in the Junior mens Shot Putt.  Over at the U/16 Long Jump Kathryn Weir won 3rd place with a good jump which was tough under the conditions as all the girls were jumping straight into the wind.

Sean Moore didn't run in the 300m due to an injury but stayed to compete in the U/11 Ball throw.  Again straight into the wind, Sean threw 20.70m which was a great throw and with that won a silver medal.  In the girls U/11 Ball Throw Molly & Aoife took part but found it hard throwing into the wind.

Back to the Shot Putt with the U/13 girls where Katie, Laura & Tara were competing.  Katie came 4th with a Personal Best of 6.78m.  Well done girls.  Next was the U/13 boys Shot Putt where Brendan Aspel threw a fantastic 6.78m to win a bronze medal.

Back at the track were the 300m, 500m, 600m & 800m races.  First up was Laura Quigley in the U/13 300m and with a great run finished 3rd then went on to finish 3rd in the 600m as well.   Also up were Sean Finn, Molly Aspell  & Aoife Kelly who finished just outside of the medals and Lisa Aspel who came 3rd to win a bronze medal in the U/12 girls 500m event.  In U/16 Boys this was Tony Aspel's first middle distance race since his injury and after a hard race came 3rd - welcome back Tony.

Last on the track were the relays and our U/13 team moved up an age to U/14 and after a fast and closely contested race were awarded silver.

In the final field events of the day, Ciara Dunne won the U/14 Long Jump with a jump of 4.04m, Lisa Aspel in the U/12 Long Jump finished 3rd with a jump of 3.09m.  Straight onto Shot Putt where Kathryn went up to compete with the Junior Women and threw over 9.0m to win a bronze medal.  Last event was with Ciara who went up an age to U/15 and came 3rd with a throw of 9.16m.

You all did really well today......keep up the good work.  The County Championships are only a few weeks away.

AAI Indoor Championships, Nenagh (27th & 28th March)
It was a fantastic weekend of athletics at Nenagh, the All Ireland finals always have a sense of occasion about them, and four of our athletes made the early morning trip to Tipperary full of excitement, anticipation, and a little bit of nerves (although they might not admit it!).

The weekend started for Crookstown on saturday morning (Day 1) when Charles Weir competed in the Under 18s Shotput, Charles looked small in amongst the competitors but fought hard and managed an excellent 5th position with a throw of 10.19m with the 5Kg shot.

Next up was Lisa Aspel in the Under 12s Long Jump, it was a great experience for Lisa as it was her first All Ireland final, and she finished 13th with  a jump of 3.27m.

Day two (Sunday) started well for the club with Kathryn Weir improving a place on last year securing a Silver medal with a throw of 10.43m  (3.25Kg shot). The  success  and excitement continued as Ciara Dunne battled hard in the closest of competitions and also achieved a silver medal (2Kg shot) and was only 14cm off the top spot.

It was great to have four athletes from a small club like Crookstown competing at the highest level in the country, and the superb performance by all of them demonstrates that hard work on the training field leads to great results in competition. Well done to Charles, Lisa, Kathryn, and Ciara.

Kildare League Round 1, Newbridge (20th March)
The 1st outdoor event of the year was eagerly anticipated, especially by the younger members of the club, some of who were competing for their 1st time for the club.  First up in the Girls U/8 60m was Tara Finn who finished 3rd in her heat and went on to finish 6th in her final.  Great going Tara.  Lisa Aspel was next in the Girls U/12 60m and did not disappoint with a comfortable win and well earned points for the club.

Meanwhile over at the shot putt, Tara Breen, Laura Quigley & Katie Quigley picked up the top 3 points in the U/13 competition and went on to repeat a top 3 for the club in their 200m race.

Stephen Murphy throwing his first ever shot putt in the boys U/13, threw 6.48m to gain yet more top points for the club.  Sean Moore competing in his first ball throw in U/10 boys threw a fantastic 32.20m.  We look forward to seeing Sean in action over the rest of the season.  Tara Finn also competed in the U/8 ball throw and did really well - unforturnately we didn't get a measurement!

At the long jump Sean Finn jumped 2.94m in the U/11 boys and Molly Aspell jumped 2.29m in the U/10 girls.

Back at the track Ciara Dunne had a good day with 1st place in the U/14 girls 80m and then following up with a 2nd place in the 600m.  Definitely time to get those spikes back out of the press!

Molly Aspell finished 4th in her 150m for girls U/10, Sean Moore finished 3rd in his 150m for boys U/10, Lisa Aspel finished 1st in her 200m for girls U/12 and Stephen Murphy finished 5th in the U/13 boys 300m.   Well done to you all as you all won points for the club.

Leinster Indoor Champsionships 2010, Nenagh (27th & 28th February)
Lisa Aspel was first to compete for the club on Saturday morning in the U12 Long Jump.  After making it down to the last 8, Lisa jumped a personal best of 4.01m to win her first individual Leinster medal.  Next up was Lisa again running in the U12 600m but due to a stitch in the last lap, did not make it out of her heats.

Katie & Laura Quigley ran in the U13 600m.  Laura qualified in 2nd place in her heat with Katie qualifying on her time.  The final of the race was last of the day on Saturday.  Katie finished 7th in what was a fast race and Laura who lost her stride in the second lap fought back and finished in 4th place.

Aaron Hennessy competed in the U14 Long Jump setting a personal best with a great jump of 4.24m which put him in 5th place overall.  Brendan Aspel and Tara Breen both competed in the U13 Shot Putt competition with Tara throwing 5.96m to finish 8th overall.

Kathryn Weir competed in her 1st competitive long jump for a few years and with a jump of 4.26m finished 5th overall.

The first day was a great success with all our athletes giving 100%.

Sunday morning saw the start of day 2 with Brendan Aspel, Katie Quigley, Tara Breen & Laura Quigley competing in U13 Long Jump.   No medals were won but they all made some great jumps.   Meanwhile, Charles Weir competed in the U18 Shot Putt and with a throw of 11.38m secured our 1st gold medal of the weekend.

Next up on the track were Tony Aspel and John Byrne in the U16 and U17 200m heats.  Neither athletes progressed from their heats but both put in tremendous effort.

Back at the Shot Putt Kathryn Weir took Gold in U16 with a personal best throw of 10.35m, Ciara Dunne threw 10.46m to win the U14s and Dean Clifford, in his first Leinster competition, threw 9.25m to come 4th in the Boys U14 competition.

Tony Aspel had an excellent start to a very fast 1st heat of the U16 boys 800m event.  Unfortunately on the second lap Tony came off the bend awkwardly and dislocated his knee!  Thankfully, with help from the first aiders, nearby hospital and lots of painkillers he made it back on crutches to watch our athletes compete in the 60 metre events.

Lisa Aspel, Brendan Aspel, Tara Breen, Katie Quigley, Laura Quigley, Aaron Hennessy, Kathryn Weir and John Byrne all ran in the 60m event with Lisa, Laura & Kathryn making it through to semi-finals/finals.  No medals were won on the track but you did us all proud.

It was a great weekend and we wish Charles, Kathryn, Ciara & Lisa the very best for the up coming All Irelands.

Results 2009

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Cross Country Championships Odd Ages (6th December 2009)
3 of our athletes competed in this event in Coleraine. Sean Finn and Jack Fitzgerald in the under 11 boys and Aaron Hennessy in the U/13 boys.  Sean Finn (running up an age) ran a superb race finishing 47th, this was Sean's first experience of an All Ireland cross country and he finished 4th for County Kildare and Kildare finished 3rd team.  Jack Fitzgerald, after a bad start, finished 85th.  Aaron Hennessy had a fantastic run and looked comfortable all through the very testing course of hills and very wet and slippy ground.  However due to organisational errors this race will be run at a later date.  See blog page for parents' comments.

AAI All Ireland Juvenile Cross Country Championships Even Ages (22nd November 2009)
On a very cold and very wet day in Kilbeggan the All Ireland Championships were run.  The first race was the girls U/12 1000m in which Kate & Laura Quigley were competing for both County and Province.  Both girls had poor starts in a field of 160 competitors but Kate made good progress through the field to finish 57th.  Laura, who had been sick through the week made a great effort and finished 89th.

The next race up was the boys U/12 1000m in which Jack Fitzgerald was competing for Kildare.  After a hard race with great effort Jack finished 100th.  Unfortunately due to the conditions very few photos were taken.

Dunleer AC Noel McGuill/Sandra Floyd Open XC (15th November 2009)
Blue skies made for great weather for this cross country event being held in Darver, Co. Louth.  Although taking place in a GAA training pitch their were plenty of variations in the course.  Molly Aspell ran first in the U/9 race and after a hard run came 19th.  Jack Fitzgerald put in a great race and narrowly missed out on 3rd place when he stumbled in the last 150m, 4th place was a great result.  Kate & Laura Quigley were the final competitors for the club and from starting on a slope to some sharp bends the girls finished 5th & 8th.  Well done to our small amount of athletes who competed today.

Leinster Cross Country Championships Odd Ages (9th November 2009)
Considering the weather leading up to this event the conditions today were wonderful!
Sunshine, not particularly cold and not a drop of rain!  Conditions underfoot were not too bad, a bit mucky, soft and wet in places but generally very good.

Girls U/11 Lisa Aspel
Lisa ran a great race to finish 36th out of a field of 146 finishers.  She finished 4th for county Kildare, improving on her position at the county championships, unfortunately the county team failed to win medals.

Boys U/11 Jack Fitzgerald and Sean Finn
Sean (running up an age) had a tremendous race and was up with the leading pack, finishing 14th overall and 4th for county Kildare.  Jack had a good race finishing 21st and 5th for county Kildare. There were 119 finishers in the u/11 boys race.  County Kildare won 1st county so both Sean and Jack went home happy with their Leinster Gold medals!  Both boys have qualified to run for county Kildare in the All Irelands to be held in Coleraine on the 6th December.

Boys U/13 Aaron Hennessey
Aaron, in his first Leinsters, very narrowly missed a bronze Leinster medal for his county. He finished 39th out of a field of 110 finishers and was 7th for Kildare (first 6 get medals)! He ran a great race and also qualifies for the All Irelands on the county Kildare team.

Boys U/15 Tony Aspel
In a very fast race Tony had a very good run finishing 44th out of 72 finishers.  He finished 9th for Kildare and the Kildare team were 2nd.  Tony therefore qualifies for the All Irelands on the Kildare team. (10 to represent county teams)

Leinster Cross Country Championships Even Ages (25th October 2009)
